Jun 20 2006 11:06 GMT - Paypal account closed Hello
Paypal have closed the ngindex account without possiblity of dispute. This means that any customers that use paypal to subscribe will have no further money taken, and the accounts will eventually expire. When your accounts expire, you can continue subscribing with our credit card payment system. As things stand, its not looking like paypal will be an available method of payment in the future.
We are working on other payment models and systems at the moment, and will keep you posted as time goes on.
If you have any queries regarding this issue, please contact admin@ngindex.com.
Thanks for your paitence

Dec 30 2005 10:48 GMT - Minor Site Update Weve just put live a few small changes that were made over the last few weeks.
The include removing the NZB Store, and replacing it with the (we thing) more usefull Multi-NZB feature. It basically does the same but easier. If people want the nzb store back as well, just shout up.
Top 10 Stats (as requested on the forum) are also now available.
There are numerous bug fixes too.
Posts has had some minore re-organisation, and has been integraed with the live site to allow us to be less carefull on the development version. Its still not finnished, but were getting there. Sections that have no data or problems have been removed and will be added as time goes on and they become finnished.

Dec 16 2005 06:36 GMT - Downtime solved! After many hours trying to figure out what was happening to the web server to cause the recent spells of downtime weve got it solver.
It was being caused by a memory leak in the image zip download code. This has been disabled for the time being while the bug is fixed and will be back soon.
The should hopefully no more downtime and things should be back to stable.
Also, the house and office move is done, and development is back underway, so posts shouldnt be far off!

Nov 15 2005 06:09 GMT - Update Problem Hi
There has been a few problems updating the data over the last few days (not sure exactly why, the database became heavily currupted - same thing that caused nfo wieredness).
The data should have been upto data about 12 hours ago, but it has taken a lot longer due to one of our news providers being down.
We will be back to full service asap, which should be in the next few hours.
Sorry for the problems

Nov 10 2005 12:46 GMT - Mismatched NFO files It seem that when the server crashed yesterday, the filesystem has become partly currupt. (It might have been before we arent sure).
However, this means that the current nfos are a little out of line with the rest of the data and posts are showing the wrong nfos.
We are working on a solution for this and will have it fixed asap.

Nov 04 2005 20:31 GMT - Multiple days per page in browse Added a few updates today.
You can now browse by pages, instead of by just day. Use the 'By Page' while browsing for this new feature.
The File Set popups have been altered, and no longer cause a page to be added to the browser history. If your browser doesnt support the new style popup, the old ones will be used instead.
There are a few other smaller updates too, but none really worth mentioning.

Oct 08 2005 17:39 GMT - Posts Update Posts is progressing nicely. The actual posts interface is still being written, but the data is quite a bit further along.
While in Files mode, you can select to view Posts data using the top right hand dropdown. Integrating the data within this section will allow the fine tuning of how it is formatted and properly categorised.
Please note that a lot of this data is still quite rough, and will be improved upon as a more standard format for it gets developed.
Any feedback on the information, or what info you would want to see welcome.
Have fun

Oct 05 2005 21:34 GMT - Retention Increase Update Everything seems to being going smoothly (apart from a few minor niggles)
We are aware of the odd problem on the posts sample site, and these will be fixed when we are sure that the main site is upto date and working properly.
Search is currently limited to 30 days of data, but this will be rectified in the next 48 hours or so.
The old data, 30+ days, will be filled in over the next few day, as there is a huge ammount of headers that need to be downloaded (>150Gb).

Oct 05 2005 04:05 GMT - Retention Increasing Were currently increasing the retention of the database.
This has required several large changes to the data structure. At the same time, the new posts data structures have been implemented on the live data.
The system is currently back filling the data for 60 days retention on all the groups, which may cause a slightly slower service over the next couple of days.
If anyone encounters any errors on the site, please email support@ngindex.com with details.
We are trying to make this transition as seamless as possible but this may not end up being the case.
Thanks for your paitence

Sep 23 2005 19:27 GMT - Credit card statements Just a quick note,
The ngindex credit card payments should show up on your credit card statements as 2CO*NGINDEX.COM.

Sep 22 2005 19:24 GMT - Quicker Updates on data Weve increased the frequency that database updates occur. Updates will now occur every 2 hours, instead of every 6!

Sep 12 2005 09:32 GMT - More images Weve increased the maximum image size on the image browser that we download, the images that were missing from sets before are now available (upto 1.5Mb images, if there is need for larger it can be increased again)
Also, there is another 40 or so image groups in the process of being added.
These changes will only affect new images so will start to appear in the coming days

Sep 08 2005 12:38 GMT - Decoder backend update The decoder has just had an update to fix an issue regarding a file with articles posted to different servers instead of just the usual single server.
This fix will only affect new servers and will increase the quality and accuracy of the data on the site. Its not feasable to backdate the fix as a full database rebuild takes about 8 days, and about 200-250Gb of data transfer over the net.
If anyone comes across any nzb files with parts that arent found, and you think that the parts should be found send me an example (admin@ngindex.com), and ill look into it.
Thanks

Aug 30 2005 10:04 GMT - New Login System / Easier subscription Hello
Weve changed the way subscriptions and the login system works. This means that if you credit card expires or subscripton is accidentally cancelled (or paypal cancels it for you), then you will be presented with the option to renew the payments when the time you have already paid for has expired.
It also mean that anyone with a cancelled account can easily resume using ngindex.com
If you feel that you should have access, but the system wont let you in, please email (admin@ngindex.com) us and we will look into the matter immediatly.
Along with these changes, we have made some general improvements to the my account section of the site, along with the login components regarding incorrect passwords. Thanks for your paitence in this

Several minor ui changes are present including optional image thumbnail popups, and improved file popup info.
Also the code for grouping files together has been updated. This code will be tweaked over the coming weeks, but we felt that in its current state was better than the old code so decided to let people use it.

Apr 24 2005 18:11 GMT - Sorry to all users We have had a large hardware failure on our main server and our backup server has proved useless. Due to this we have had around 36 hours with the site offline. Currently the site is back up and running but has chunks of data missing, and is a couple of days behind in processing data. We are working to getting the site back upto 100% functionality but this is taking quite a while and there are only so many hours in a day we can work. Please hang on while we pick up the pieces of a complete server meltdown and get things working again.
Full service should be restored withing the next 24 hours hopefully.

We are currently working on a solution to this problem, but it sould take some sime. Sorry for the inconvienice of the slow searches. Also upcoming...

Nov 09 2004 13:43 GMT - NZB Store, Images Zip and More Weve just launched a new set of changes for ngindex.
New Naviagtion
While using browse mode, there are 2 new dropdown combo boxes. The first of these dropdowns allow the quick changindex of you current group. The other allows changing of the view style of the data you are viewing. Within this dropdown you can also enable/disable several extra features on the data listing such and a user definable filter, nzb store, and image zips. On the right dropdown, you can select different view modes for different purposes. More of these should be added as required in the future. For raw data, the 'Raw - By Author' mode give a nice list of all files in that group, and 'Grouped - Filtered' gives a quick overview.
Image Zips
This allows you, when browsing the image thumbnails, to store the selected images in a zip file for later download. To enable this feature use the right hand dropdown, and select Image Thumbs mode. When in thumbnail mode, the dropdown option 'Show/Hide -> Image Zips' will emable the zip mode. Check the images you wish to store, select a zip no, and press store to save those images. Within 'My Account -> Image Zips', you can edit and download the zips. This is a beta feature at the moment, and feedback or bugs should be emailed to admin@ngindex.com.
NZB Store
This works the same as image zips but got grouping nzb files together. When in a grouped or raw mode, use the 'Show/Hide -> NZB Store' option. The nzb files you select will be grouped together to allow you to download one file instead of many. 'My Account -> NZB Store' is used to edit the contents of these stores.
New Default Skin
The default skin has now been set to the Minimal Blue skin. If you want the old style skin back please use the 'My Account -> Select Skin' option.
Content Reporting
There is now the ability to report images which are deemed unacceptable content and have them removed from the site. This reporting can also be used to remove copyright images and other illegal images. There has been a recent set of off topic pornography posted to newsgroups, and we have illiminted this from our database.
Other New things
There have been a lot of tidying up of various pages and new small features that are too numerous to mention indivdually too. NFO search is now working full, with highlighting of the searched term in the nfo. Url links on nfos will be following soon. There have also been several

Oct 20 2004 14:28 GMT - Minimal Skin Weve launched a beta version of the new minimalist skin. You can select this skin using the 'My Account' -> 'Select Skin' option.
There are a few flaws with the skin at the moment, but its usable but has a few minor graphical glitches. It only been tested in Mozilla Firefox PR 1, but uses standard html and css so should work with Internet Explorer too.
More color variations on this skin and a few fixes will be available soon.

Oct 08 2004 14:52 GMT - Coming Soon! Just a teaser for some of the new features that should be launched soon:
Reporting and removal of images with obscene content.
Our policy is we do not wish to have our site containing pornography, but unfortunatly have no way of filtering the small ammount of pornographic content on our site. Weve implemented an image report and removal system to remove any content that people would like removed for obscenity or legal reasons.
New Grouping Engine
On one of our test servers, we have a completly new grouping system being written. Development has been ongoing for a while on this but its approaching comletions. You can expect more accurate grouping, and also less spam and text content.
Downloading of multiple nzb files at one
We have a nzb store system where you can select a large ammount of file or group nzb files to be combined into one and downloaded at a later date. There is also a link on the bottom of a page to download a nzb containing all of the checked files and groups on that page.
Imageless Skin
A cut down skin with no images and lower bandwidth requirements.
File Survailance
File survailance does a daily search on what you specify. The results of the searches are emailed to you daily, and stored on our server as web pages. This is ideal for regulary searching for the same thing.
All of these features are either almost finished or in public beta.
Thanks
Adam
