Jun 20 2006 11:06 GMT - Paypal account closed

Hello

Paypal have closed the ngindex account without possiblity of dispute. This means that any customers that use paypal to subscribe will have no further money taken, and the accounts will eventually expire. When your accounts expire, you can continue subscribing with our credit card payment system. As things stand, its not looking like paypal will be an available method of payment in the future.

We are working on other payment models and systems at the moment, and will keep you posted as time goes on.

If you have any queries regarding this issue, please contact admin@ngindex.com.

Thanks for your paitence

Jan 18 2006 08:51 GMT - Database Problems

Hello

As some of you may have spotted, weve been having some database curruption problems in the last week or 2. We have yet to figure out what is actually causing these problems, and apologise for any parts of the site that stop funtioning because of it.

Please keep informing up of any tables on the site that cause this error.

We are working to figure out what is causing this and will keep you updated on progress.

Thanks

Dec 30 2005 10:48 GMT - Minor Site Update

Weve just put live a few small changes that were made over the last few weeks.

The include removing the NZB Store, and replacing it with the (we thing) more usefull Multi-NZB feature. It basically does the same but easier.
If people want the nzb store back as well, just shout up.

Top 10 Stats (as requested on the forum) are also now available.

There are numerous bug fixes too.

Posts has had some minore re-organisation, and has been integraed with the live site to allow us to be less carefull on the development version. Its still not finnished, but were getting there. Sections that have no data or problems have been removed and will be added as time goes on and they become finnished.

Dec 16 2005 06:36 GMT - Downtime solved!

After many hours trying to figure out what was happening to the web server to cause the recent spells of downtime weve got it solver.

It was being caused by a memory leak in the image zip download code. This has been disabled for the time being while the bug is fixed and will be back soon.

The should hopefully no more downtime and things should be back to stable.

Also, the house and office move is done, and development is back underway, so posts shouldnt be far off!

Thanks

Dec 13 2005 07:12 GMT - Occasional Downtime

Nov 25 2005 09:03 GMT - Delay in credit card payment processing

Hello

We have had a delay in any payment processing of credit card payments over the last 5 or so days. We sincerly apologise for any delays or inaccesable accounts during the last few days. This problem has now been fixed. If anyone still has an account that they cant access and have made a payment for please contact us ASAP so we can get your account back up and runing.

Again, apologies for the delay in fixing this, our development servers have been offline due to an office move which has slowed down response time considerable.

Thanks for your continued support

Nov 18 2005 18:18 GMT - Slow support / no updates

Just a warning that there will probably by a delay in answering support emails due to moving house / office in this weekend, and not having broadband access for about 2 weeks. We will try and get any support answered in 24 hours, but no development or site changes will be done during the next few weeks (except critical bugs).

Things will be back to normal soon.

Nov 15 2005 06:09 GMT - Update Problem

Hi

There has been a few problems updating the data over the last few days (not sure exactly why, the database became heavily currupted - same thing that caused nfo wieredness).

The data should have been upto data about 12 hours ago, but it has taken a lot longer due to one of our news providers being down.

We will be back to full service asap, which should be in the next few hours.

Sorry for the problems

Adam
Nov 11 2005 10:47 GMT - NFOS files fixed

The nfo files seem to be fixed again, and are currently being re-downloaded for all the older posts. This should be done in a few more hours.

Adam
Nov 10 2005 12:46 GMT - Mismatched NFO files

It seem that when the server crashed yesterday, the filesystem has become partly currupt. (It might have been before we arent sure).

However, this means that the current nfos are a little out of line with the rest of the data and posts are showing the wrong nfos.

We are working on a solution for this and will have it fixed asap.

Adam
Nov 09 2005 07:55 GMT - Posts preview updated to work again

Just updated the posts preview so that it is working again (had the wrong link in it before).

Posts is taking a lot longer than expected due to various other things that have needed to be done and due to moving house / offices.

Sorry

Adam
Nov 04 2005 20:31 GMT - Multiple days per page in browse

Added a few updates today.

You can now browse by pages, instead of by just day. Use the 'By Page' while browsing for this new feature.

The File Set popups have been altered, and no longer cause a page to be added to the browser history. If your browser doesnt support the new style popup, the old ones will be used instead.

There are a few other smaller updates too, but none really worth mentioning.

Adam
Oct 12 2005 19:54 GMT - Posts mode in browse

While browsing the data in files (browse) mode, the mixed posts data will not be available for the next few days while the data processing is upgraded for the upcoming release of the new Posts section.
Oct 09 2005 23:28 GMT - NZB Updates

When the recent database upgrades went live, it broke the occasional nzb file that crosses over multiple days. This is now fixed. The same problem was also occuring for the nzb store which is also fixed. A bunch of debug data has also been removed from the nzb store.

Adam
Oct 08 2005 17:39 GMT - Posts Update

Posts is progressing nicely. The actual posts interface is still being written, but the data is quite a bit further along.

While in Files mode, you can select to view Posts data using the top right hand dropdown. Integrating the data within this section will allow the fine tuning of how it is formatted and properly categorised.

Please note that a lot of this data is still quite rough, and will be improved upon as a more standard format for it gets developed.

Any feedback on the information, or what info you would want to see welcome.

Have fun

Adam

Oct 05 2005 21:55 GMT - Images now visible

It seems that the new table code broke some of the image permissions.

This has now been fixed

Sorry about the interuptions to service
Oct 05 2005 21:34 GMT - Retention Increase Update

Everything seems to being going smoothly (apart from a few minor niggles)

We are aware of the odd problem on the posts sample site, and these will be fixed when we are sure that the main site is upto date and working properly.

Search is currently limited to 30 days of data, but this will be rectified in the next 48 hours or so.

The old data, 30+ days, will be filled in over the next few day, as there is a huge ammount of headers that need to be downloaded (>150Gb).

Thanks

NGindex development team
Oct 05 2005 04:05 GMT - Retention Increasing

Were currently increasing the retention of the database.

This has required several large changes to the data structure. At the same time, the new posts data structures have been implemented on the live data.

The system is currently back filling the data for 60 days retention on all the groups, which may cause a slightly slower service over the next couple of days.

If anyone encounters any errors on the site, please email support@ngindex.com with details.

We are trying to make this transition as seamless as possible but this may not end up being the case.

Thanks for your paitence

Adam
Oct 04 2005 21:45 GMT - NFOs now upto date

The nfo decoder is now back upto date, and the nfos on ngindex, and nfo.ngindex.com are now back upto date

Sep 23 2005 19:27 GMT - Credit card statements

Just a quick note,

The ngindex credit card payments should show up on your credit card statements as 2CO*NGINDEX.COM.

This is not always the case however, as some are appearing as just 2CO. We apologise for any problems that this might cause, but getting support out of 2checkout.com is next to impossible.
Sep 22 2005 19:24 GMT - Quicker Updates on data

Weve increased the frequency that database updates occur. Updates will now occur every 2 hours, instead of every 6!

This should allow new files to appear on the site far quicker.

Images are update and processed only every 4 hours at the momentm but may be increased in the future.

Sep 19 2005 01:10 GMT - Credit card payments

The notification of credit card payments has been broken for the last 3 days, which means any new credit card accounts, or accounts that needed payment may have been inaccessable. We sincerly apologise for any time that specific users have not been able to access the site.

This problem has now been recitfied.

Sep 16 2005 06:26 GMT - Server Upgrades

Sorry about the brief downtime, but the web server has had a couple of Gb of ram added to it, and is now noticbly faster!

Sep 15 2005 12:30 GMT - Pending paypal payments

Hi

Ive modifed the payment system to allow temporary access to accounts that had a paypal payment pending.

This should make sure all users that have completed the payment process can fully access the site. If a pending payment fails, then access for that account will be removed.

Hope this helps a couple of users

Adam
Sep 12 2005 12:25 GMT - Slow Site

Just a warning that ngindex.com will be slower than normal for the next 12 hours.

We have added around 100 new groups and the system is catching up slowly.

Sep 12 2005 09:32 GMT - More images

Weve increased the maximum image size on the image browser that we download, the images that were missing from sets before are now available (upto 1.5Mb images, if there is need for larger it can be increased again)

Also, there is another 40 or so image groups in the process of being added.

These changes will only affect new images so will start to appear in the coming days
Sep 08 2005 12:38 GMT - Decoder backend update

The decoder has just had an update to fix an issue regarding a file with articles posted to different servers instead of just the usual single server.

This fix will only affect new servers and will increase the quality and accuracy of the data on the site. Its not feasable to backdate the fix as a full database rebuild takes about 8 days, and about 200-250Gb of data transfer over the net.

If anyone comes across any nzb files with parts that arent found, and you think that the parts should be found send me an example (admin@ngindex.com), and ill look into it.

Thanks

Aug 30 2005 10:04 GMT - New Login System / Easier subscription

Hello

Weve changed the way subscriptions and the login system works. This means that if you credit card expires or subscripton is accidentally cancelled (or paypal cancels it for you), then you will be presented with the option to renew the payments when the time you have already paid for has expired.

It also mean that anyone with a cancelled account can easily resume using ngindex.com

If you feel that you should have access, but the system wont let you in, please email (admin@ngindex.com) us and we will look into the matter immediatly.

Along with these changes, we have made some general improvements to the my account section of the site, along with the login components regarding incorrect passwords.
Thanks for your paitence in this

Aug 07 2005 06:27 GMT - Images back to normal

Image browser thumbnail are back fully working.

They will be a little slower until a new server can be sorted out for them, but they are working now. Changing over to a new server will be transparent and no downtime will be needed.

Thanks

Aug 06 2005 07:48 GMT - Image Browser Thumbnail Maintanance

Hello

There has been problems lately with the thumbnail server hanging for some reason that we cant figure out. We are moving the thumbnails onto a different machine, but expect missing thumbnails for a couple of days.

We apologise for the downtime earlier in the week, which was caused by the same machine hanging.

Thanks

Jul 19 2005 16:55 GMT - New Spam Filters

A new set of spam filtering software has been created which should make some groups that were unusable due to if before usable again.
This new software rids a lot of the spam/splurge that we know about, so if anyone finds more, please email admin@ngindex.com about what group and when its posted and we will improve the filter software some more.

Thanks

Jul 07 2005 07:14 GMT - Website Upgrades

We are increasing the number of servers we run on, and going live with a large bunch of website changes in the next couple of days.
This may involve the odd 15 mins of downtime.

Sorry for these possible outages, but it will be worth it for you users  :)

Jun 12 2005 15:25 GMT - Data updates

The data updates are now pretty much complete.

Several minor ui changes are present including optional image thumbnail popups, and improved file popup info.

Also the code for grouping files together has been updated. This code will be tweaked over the coming weeks, but we felt that in its current state was better than the old code so decided to let people use it.

It will take a few days for images to all be updated and thumbnailed, and missing images will be available soon.

Thanks for your patience.

NGindex development team
Jun 09 2005 13:09 GMT - Slow Site

The site will be slighly slower than normal over the next 24-48 hours and the data may drop behind due to various database maintanance and upgrades that are happening.
These upgrades will result in an overall fast site, and the data being a lot more accurate and complete.

Thanks for you paitence

Weve create a new help, support and faq system.

You can access this under the help section of the site.

You can now create support tickets when you require help on the site. This is the prefered method of contacting us, and most emails to us will automatically be turned into support tickets from now on anyway.

Also new are the discussion forums. Feel free to use as you wish.

The knoweledge base is a bit thin on the ground information wise, but were adding to it in the following weeks. If you have any suggestions of things that should go into this, please email kb@ngindex.com with suggestions.

Apr 27 2005 05:48 GMT - Current Status Part 2

All the main data is now back up and running as normal. Were still mising nfo and image files, but they will be back as soon as we can solve the problem the crash caused.

Basically, the main filesystem on the server decided to die quite horribly taking large chunks of the data and various pieces of code with it. We have recovered a large proportion of this data so things are almost back up and running again.

Thanks

Apr 24 2005 18:13 GMT - Current Status

We are currently missing all nfo and image files, along with grouped data for about 8 days of data. Also we are missing some of the group categories.

Anything other than this that is missing please email to admin@ngindex.com with details so we can ensure everything is working soon.

Apr 24 2005 18:11 GMT - Sorry to all users

We have had a large hardware failure on our main server and our backup server has proved useless. Due to this we have had around 36 hours with the site offline. Currently the site is back up and running but has chunks of data missing, and is a couple of days behind in processing data. We are working to getting the site back upto 100% functionality but this is taking quite a while and there are only so many hours in a day we can work. Please hang on while we pick up the pieces of a complete server meltdown and get things working again.

Full service should be restored withing the next 24 hours hopefully.

Sorry for the problems

Ngindex development team
Apr 23 2005 09:39 GMT - Images and Downtime

Due to some recent server problems, we have experienced the loss of the entire image database. We apologise for the problems and degredation in service this causes, however, new images will appear over the next few days so hold tight.

This problem has also caused several hours downtime while repairs to the database and filestore were made.

Thanks

Apr 12 2005 11:01 GMT - Credit Card Payments

Payent by credit card for new account is now activated.

If you want to transfer your payments over to credit card payments, send an email to admin@ngindex.com containing your username and we will inform you how to transfer the account.

Unfortunatly, due to the way the credit card payment system works, there will no-longer be a 5 day free trial.

We are also looking at creating a referals system if people are interested, involving getting free months on your account for refering other people to ngindex.

Apr 12 2005 10:57 GMT - Site Updates

At last!! Weve had time to finnish various front end updates.

While browsing the site data, there are now tooltip popups for the post info, and also mini-nfo tooltips when moving the mouse over a nfo link. We have found these pretty usefull in testing, hope you lot do too!

There are more categories for groups now, in a tree like format too.

If needed, we can set the tooltips as a preference if some people dont want them.

More coming soon

NGindex development team
Feb 05 2005 21:27 GMT - Slow Searches

It seems that at certain times of day, search is handling a huge load and searches are taking upwards of a minute to finnish. We are currently working on a solution to this problem, but it sould take some sime. Sorry for the inconvienice of the slow searches. When the updates are done, the search will also integrate nfo, raw and grouped into one more usefull search.

Also upcoming...

Payments by credit card as well as paypal
Category tree covering > 70 categorys instead of just the base 7
Several smaller interface fixes and updates
New grouping engine (this will eventually be finnished but its extremely complex and takes a long time to write)

If you have any comments and suggestiong for improvements to the site, feel free to email us at admin@ngindex.com and we will seriously consider implementing any suggestions made.

Thanks for your custom

Nov 09 2004 13:43 GMT - NZB Store, Images Zip and More

Weve just launched a new set of changes for ngindex.

New Naviagtion

While using browse mode, there are 2 new dropdown combo boxes. The first of these dropdowns allow the quick changindex of you current group. The other allows changing of the view style of the data you are viewing. Within this dropdown you can also enable/disable several extra features on the data listing such and a user definable filter, nzb store, and image zips. On the right dropdown, you can select different view modes for different purposes. More of these should be added as required in the future. For raw data, the 'Raw - By Author' mode give a nice list of all files in that group, and 'Grouped - Filtered' gives a quick overview.

Image Zips

This allows you, when browsing the image thumbnails, to store the selected images in a zip file for later download. To enable this feature use the right hand dropdown, and select Image Thumbs mode. When in thumbnail mode, the dropdown option 'Show/Hide -> Image Zips' will emable the zip mode. Check the images you wish to store, select a zip no, and press store to save those images. Within 'My Account -> Image Zips', you can edit and download the zips. This is a beta feature at the moment, and feedback or bugs should be emailed to admin@ngindex.com.

NZB Store

This works the same as image zips but got grouping nzb files together.  When in a grouped or raw mode, use the 'Show/Hide -> NZB Store' option. The nzb files you select will be grouped together to allow you to download one file instead of many. 'My Account -> NZB Store' is used to edit the contents of these stores.

New Default Skin

The default skin has now been set to the Minimal Blue skin. If you want the old style skin back please use the 'My Account -> Select Skin' option.

Content Reporting

There is now the ability to report images which are deemed unacceptable content and have them removed from the site. This reporting can also be used to remove copyright images and other illegal images. There has been a recent set of off topic pornography posted to newsgroups, and we have illiminted this from our database.

Other New things

There have been a lot of tidying up of various pages and new small features that are too numerous to mention indivdually too. NFO search is now working full, with highlighting of the searched term in the nfo. Url links on nfos will be following soon. There have also been several

Weve launched a beta version of the new minimalist skin. You can select this skin using the 'My Account' -> 'Select Skin' option.

There are a few flaws with the skin at the moment, but its usable but has a few minor graphical glitches. It only been tested in Mozilla Firefox PR 1, but uses standard html and css so should work with Internet Explorer too.

More color variations on this skin and a few fixes will be available soon.

Thanks

Oct 08 2004 14:52 GMT - Coming Soon!

Just a teaser for some of the new features that should be launched soon:

Reporting and removal of images with obscene content.

Our policy is we do not wish to have our site containing pornography, but unfortunatly have no way of filtering the small ammount of pornographic content on our site. Weve implemented an image report and removal system to remove any content that people would like removed for obscenity or legal reasons.

New Grouping Engine

On one of our test servers, we have a completly new grouping system being written. Development has been ongoing for a while on this but its approaching comletions. You can expect more accurate grouping, and also less spam and text content.

Downloading of multiple nzb files at one

We have a nzb store system where you can select a large ammount of file or group nzb files to be combined into one and downloaded at a later date. There is also a link on the bottom of a page to download a nzb containing all of the checked files and groups on that page.

Imageless Skin

A cut down skin with no images and lower bandwidth requirements.

File Survailance

File survailance does a daily search on what you specify. The results of the searches are emailed to you daily, and stored on our server as web pages. This is ideal for regulary searching for the same thing.

All of these features are either almost finished or in public beta.

Thanks

As many of you have probably noticed, grouping has been a bit wiered lately and all the totals were wrong. Weve fixed the problems but its required a bit of database manipulation and a complete regroup of all the data.

We have made so major improvement to out grouping engine. The grouped post mode will now be more accurate than ever before at determining post groups.

Unfortunatly, this means the we have to rebuild our entire grouped post database.

This process will unfortuanly make the grouped data incomplete for the next few hours.

All data should be back to normal soon.
